Heil Revolutionizes CNG Fuel Delivery

April 11, 2014

CHATTANOOGA, TN. (April 1, 2014) – Today marks a milestone in compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel delivery systems with the introduction of Heil’s innovative CNrG™ (pronounced synergy) tailgate.

CNrG integrates CNG tanks, which are typically found on the roof of a refuse collection vehicle or along the frame rails, into the tailgate. This intelligent placement shifts the weight distribution to the rear of the truck, lowering the load placed on the front axle.

“In developing this product, we wanted to create a solution that opens the potential for refuse collection vehicles,” said Patrick Carroll, President of Environmental Solutions Group, parent company of Heil. “We have engineered a truly unique CNG fuel delivery system that improves the Triple Bottom Line for our customers.”

The CNrG tailgate of a residential or commercial front loader vehicle reduces the overall vehicle height by 12 inches when compared to a roof-mounted system. Additionally, the tailgate placement allows a truck to carry between 45 and 105 DGE without the need for a split system. This added fuel capacity in one place means fewer fuel hoses compared to a split system and the potential to carry enough fuel to complete longer routes or reduce the need for daily refueling. The reduced need for daily refueling could translate into a reduced fueling station infrastructure need.

Heil’s advanced CNrG tailgate structure received rigorous stress analysis and testing, simulating 15 years of operation. The solid design of CNrG is poised to change the refuse industry and make it an even more viable option for those seeking a refuse collection vehicle that benefits the customer, their bottom line and the planet.

“At Heil, we have always focused on innovating for our industry,” said Andy Cooper, Product Group Manager – Commercial Collection with Heil. “When those innovations improve on both product design and our customers’ benefit, we’ve done our jobs right. CNG clearly saves considerably in fuel costs over diesel, and by providing a fully integrated CNG system with our newest refuse collection vehicle, the Odyssey, we are manufacturing a product that offers better fit and finish, better packaging and better overall value to the end user.”

CNrG orders will begin in April, with expected delivery of the first units in June 2014.
