The Vibe Is “Electric”

Aug. 10, 2016

Christina Lampe-Önnerud is called “the Queen of Batteries.” The Swedish inventor and entrepreneur founded the battery company, Boston Power, in 2005. She sold the company in 2012 and founded Cadenza Innovation. After four years, Lampe-Önnerud and Cadenza are now unveiling to the world a new kind of lithium-ion battery.

Here’s the big selling point, if I may understate this…if this new battery is placed in a Tesla, it could increase the range of the car by 70%. And it would cost less.

The technology is being developed mainly for transport services, but they’re also coming up with applications for equipment such as excavators and other kinds of dirt movers.

Business Insider Nordic wrote about Lampe-Önnerud and her new battery recently:

“The excitement in Christina Lampe-Önneruds voice is unmistakable. One of Sweden’s most successful entrepreneurs is finally able to show the world her new lithium-ion battery, which, thanks to its innovative construction, offers considerably higher effect at a lower cost, while simultaneously being both less spacious, and safer than the current solutions on the market.”

“With more than a dozen patents applied for and four of them already approved, Cadenza Innovation has now completed its first round of external financing, managed by the American early-stage investment firm Golden Seeds. With $5 million in growth capital, Christina Lampe-Önnerud and her team of ten co-workers, including her husband Per Önnerud, can take the next step towards the market and recruit more people.”
