Today I’m blogging from the floor of the Las Vegas Convention Center as I attend World of Concrete. You may be asking why a “dirtmoving” magazine is interested in concrete. The short answer is that much of the equipment and technology used in the concrete construction industry is used on the same machines and heavy equipment for grading and excavation.
My schedule is extremely packed for the next few days visiting various manufacturers and interviewing them. I’ll be taking a close look at their latest offerings and try to get them to talk about what they may have in store when it comes to the next few generations of heavy equipment and technology and how those two will merge.
The sights and sounds of the show are always interesting when you take a minute to look around. There’s everything from the John Deere operator’s challenge, to a television studio, to a power punching game that measures how forceful you can hit a punching bag.
There are company executives, engineers, software programmers, contractors, sub-contractors, equipment operators, and trade journalists from around the world.
The show attracts nearly 1,500 exhibitors who set up booths on approximately 675,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space, which has me sort of yearning for one of those hoverboards.
I’m here all week, so let me know if there’s something you would like to know from the show floor!
